Take your drive north out of Flowood on Old Fanon Road and cross the spillway. A few minutes later, you can be riding the Natchez Trace Parkway. No big trucks blocking your view, zero stoplights.<\/p>\n
But the Trace isn’t a state road. It belongs to the National Park Service. And that changes what happens if you go down out there.<\/p>\n
You won’t see Flowood police patrolling the parkway. And you won’t see any Rankin County deputies either. Park rangers have federal authority there.<\/p>\n
That means an accident on the Trace is written up by the National Park Service, not anybody local. It’s a totally different set of paperwork than if you had the same crash on Lakeland Drive.<\/p>\n

One step people miss is reporting the crash to the park superintendent within one day. That’s on top of calling your insurance agent and starting your claim.<\/p>\n
Riders and drivers from all over the country visit The Trace. If someone from four states away hits you and they don’t have liability insurance, all you’re left with is your uninsured and underinsured motorist protection.<\/p>\n
